How to choose the right aftermarket exhaust set up for your Triumph Scrambler 1200

If you're new to the Triumph Scrambler 1200 range, choosing the correct Triumph aftermarket exhaust can be confusing. Triumph has produced several versions of the Scrambler 1200 over different production years, with changes to emissions regulations affecting exhaust fitment and catalytic converter placement.

This Hitchcox Motorcycles exhaust guide explains:

  • Which Shotgun slip-on fits which model

  • The production years for each Scrambler 1200 variant

  • The differences between Euro 4, Euro 5, and Euro 5+ bikes

  • Catalytic converter differences between models

  • Heat shield and number board compatibility

  • EU vs Rest of World (ROW) sensor bung differences

1. Understanding the Triumph Scrambler 1200 Models

Scrambler 1200 XC

Production years: 2018-2023

Emissions standards: Euro 4 and Euro 5 depending on year

The XC was one of the original Scrambler 1200 models launched in 2018. Earlier bikes were built to Euro 4 emissions regulations, while later models transitioned to Euro 5. It was the base model aimed at road riding.

Scrambler 1200 XE

Production years: 2018-present

Emissions standards: Euro 4/5 and Euro 5+

The XE is the higher-spec, off-road focused version of the Scrambler 1200. As with the XC, early models are Euro 4 and later bikes are Euro 5.

Scrambler 1200 X

Production years: 2024 onwards

Emissions standard: Euro 5 / Euro 5+

The Scrambler 1200 X replaced the XC from 2024 onwards. This newer Triumph motorbike uses a revised exhaust system layout and different emissions equipment.

2. Euro 4, Euro 5, and Euro 5+: What It Means for Your Triumph Exhaust

Euro 4

Euro 4 Scrambler 1200 models have the catalytic converter located in the front exhaust section and not inside the silencers. This means:

  • The catalytic converter is retained when fitting Hitchcox Motorcycles Shotgun slip-ons

  • No catalytic converter removal is required

  • These bikes are typically earlier 2018-2020 models

Euro 5

Euro 5 regulations introduced changes to the exhaust system design. On Euro 5 Scrambler 1200 models:

  • The catalytic converters are located inside the stock silencers

  • Fitting Shotgun slip-ons removes the catalytic converters

  • The stock silencers must be removed completely along with the integrated cats

Euro 5+

Euro 5+ is the latest evolution of emissions regulations. For fitment purposes, Euro 5+ Scrambler 1200 X models follow the same Triumph exhaust requirements as Euro 5 bikes:

  • Catalytic converters are integrated into the stock silencers

  • Installing Shotgun slip-ons removes the catalytic converters

3. Triumph Aftermarket Exhaust Fitment by Model

Scrambler 1200 XE & XC (2018–2024)

This Hitchcox Motorcycles exhaust system is designed for the Scrambler 1200 XE and XC, model years 2018-2024, covering both Euro 4 and Euro 5 bikes.

Euro 4 XE/XC Models:

  • The catalytic converter is retained after installation

  • The stock silencers are replaced with our Shotgun slip-ons

Euro 5 XE/XC Models:

  • The catalytic converters are in the stock silencers

  • Installing Shotgun slip-ons removes the catalytic converters

  • The stock silencers and integrated cats are removed together

Heat Shield and Number Board:

For XE/XC models, the stock number board heat shield is not compatible with our heat shield. We supply the bracket required for the middle heat shield to be used. Please note:

  • You may use the OEM number board without a heat shield

  • Or you may use our heat shield setup instead

  • You cannot use both together as there is not enough clearance between components

Installation Hardware: All stock mounting hardware and clamps are reused. We supply a new M8 mounting bolt.

Scrambler 1200 X (2024 Onwards)

This Hitchcox Motorcycles exhaust system is designed for the Scrambler 1200 X, 2024 onwards, covering Euro 5 and Euro 5+ bikes.

Catalytic Converter:

  • The catalytic converters are located in the stock silencers

  • Installing Shotgun slip-ons removes the catalytic converters

  • The stock silencers and integrated cats are removed together

Sensor Function: This system includes a function to plug in the sensor at the rear of the exhaust.

Heat Shield and Number Board:

For Scrambler 1200 X models, the system retains the middle black heat shield. Please note:

  • You may retain your stock number board or opt for our heat shield

  • The OEM number board and heat shield cannot be used together as there is not enough space between components

Installation Hardware: All stock mounting hardware and clamps are reused. We supply a new M8 mounting bolt.

4. EU vs Rest of World (ROW) Systems

EU Orders: All EU orders include an O2 sensor bung in the rear of the pipes.

Rest of World (ROW) Orders: All Rest of World orders do not include an O2 sensor bung in the rear of the pipes.
