"It now sounds as good as it looks!"

When North Warwickshire-based rider Matt fitted a set of Hitchcox Motorcycles reverse cone slip-ons to his 2024 Triumph Speed Twin 1200, it changed more than just the sound. We asked Matt what made him choose an aftermarket exhaust and why he hasn't looked back.

Why choose an aftermarket exhaust for a Triumph Speed Twin?

For Matt, upgrading the exhaust had been on the cards since day one. The Speed Twin is a great bike out of the box, but after months of research one name kept coming up as the option that stood apart from the rest.

"Upgrading the exhausts has been on the cards since day one, the Speed Twin is a great bike out of the box, but it lacks a proper soundtrack - I'd spent a long time researching best options, and one name kept coming up - Hitchcox Motorcycles.”

How the design differs from others

“You have to see Hitchcox Motorcycles exhausts in the flesh to really appreciate the engineering and artistry that goes into them - they truly do stand out above the rest, the welds, the design and the sound are all unbeatable.”

“I'd heard horror stories from folks buying from other brands, with mounts not lining up properly, dodgy welds etc, but I'd only ever heard positive reviews when it comes to Hitchcox Motorcycles…I've not been disappointed - mine are beautifully made, sound incredible and were super easy to fit.”

Choosing Slip-ons or a full system exhaust

“Money was no object, a full Hitchcox Motorcycles system was what I had my eye on - but for now at least, I've opted for the reverse cone slip-ons, as they offer the perfect blend of aesthetics, sound and affordability - and after speaking to the team at Hitchcox Motorcycles, they told me that the same cones are used in their full reverse cone system, so it also opens up the option to upgrade to a full system later down the line. Although, quite frankly, I've been blown away by how much of a difference just swapping out the end-cans has made. Are they the cheapest option on the market? No. Are they head and shoulders above the rest? Yes."

This is a common theme among Triumph Speed Twin owners looking at aftermarket exhausts: the stock system doesn't always deliver the soundtrack the bike deserves. The Hitchcox Motorcycles reverse cone slip-ons are engineered to deliver a genuine performance and acoustic upgrade, with a clear path to a full reverse cone system down the line.

How does the Hitchcox motorcycle exhaust transform the sound and feel of the Speed Twin?

One of the most common questions we hear from Triumph owners considering an upgrade is: will it actually make a difference? Matt's answer is unambiguous.

"The bike now bellows and growls, the Hitchcox Motorcycles exhausts are noticeably deeper and richer than stock. It roars with every acceleration and burbles beautifully on corner approaches, the sound is nothing short of addictive. It now sounds as good as it looks!”

“There is depth, throatiness and presence to the exhaust note - it's not just louder, it now has heart and soul. I also love the option of being able to easily switch between having the dB killers in or out depending on the user's preference - it's a nice touch."

The reaction speaks for itself

A great aftermarket exhaust gets noticed, and Matt's slip-ons have earned their fair share of compliments since day one, not least for how naturally they sit on the bike.

"Aside from the obvious compliments on the sound, I've received compliments on how the slip-ons look like they are part of the existing Triumph system. One of my biggest pet peeves with slip-on's is them looking 'stuck on', but that is not the case with these - they look like they belong on the bike."

More than just sound. A better riding experience

Beyond the noise, upgrading to a Hitchcox Motorcycles aftermarket exhaust changes the way riding feels. For Matt, it's made every journey more immersive.

"For me (like many others) riding is often an escapism and a great way to clear one's noggin - reaching a 'flow state', completely engaged with the job in hand (and the road in front) whilst detaching from the stresses of daily life - it's just me, the bike and the open road. So, I don't listen to music or have any other distractions whilst I'm riding, I want it to feel as raw and engaging as possible. The Hitchcox Motorcycle exhausts amplify that feeling twofold, what was lacking previously with the stock soundtrack is now there in spades - it's made an already great bike and riding experience even better, it's now more engaging, more thrilling and everything a bike should be; pure emotion, pure fun."

In one word?

"Emotive."
